Morayvia

I last visited this small museum in Scotland back in 2017 and there are a few pictures here. It has grown since and a proper re-visit is probably in order but this time I only had time for a passing visit on a day that the museum is not open although I was able to get a couple of pictures of the Phantom that arrived last year, the Vampire and a new project parked out front.

Nimrod Memorial

Outside of the Morayvia museum is a memorial to RAF Nimrod crashes and the lives sadly taken. As noted below the tailfin that forms the centrepiece of the memorial was recovered from an aircraft that crashed at an airshow in Canada.

Happy Birthday!

The Hercules first flew 70 years ago today which is a good excuse to pop up a few pictures taken at Wanaka earlier this year.

Bennerley Viaduct

A slightly tennuous post but visiting this former railway viaduct just outside of Nottingham at the weekend I noted that it was almost taken out by a WWI Zeppelin raid - so here are a couple of pictures!

A-26 Invader 'Sugarland Express'

It's a long time since I've seen this A-26. Owned by the Scandinavian Historic Flight it would sometimes participate in Flying Legends shows at Duxford. After 36 years in their hands it has now been sold and flown to Germany with new owners at Flugplatz Mullheim. Let's hope this means it gets out and about again in the future.

Nimrod XV244

Although it hasn't flown for more than a decade this Nimrod is the last such aircraft still on an RAF base. It can be found on the outer edge of RAF Kinloss which now serves as a barracks. The aircraft is owned by the Morayvia Air Museum which is close by. I believe that there is an intention to move it to the museum site. Eventually! For now it is possible to snap it through the fence from the nearby road.

Ten years on - part 2

When the Canadian Lancaster came to the UK 10 years ago I was lucky enough to get a flight. The flight was out of Humberside - former RAF Kirmington - and there were five of us aboard. I believe this was the first flight that was undertaken in the UK. It was of course an experience not to be forgotten and I made this soon after being a mixture of footage I shot and some that my wife took from the terminal building.

Ten years on!

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the arrival in the UK of the Canadian Lancaster, affectionately christened Vera, for the start of her UK tour and it turned in to a pretty good summer as a result. It was therefore 10 years ago that I sat in my office distracted by a track on Flight Radar which lost signal for a while due to low altitude and then I was excitedly texting my wife when the track resumed and the Lanc crossed the Scottish cost on the way to Coninsby. Great memories 🙂
