RAAF Base Wagga

This is an active military site although there is no longer any flying from the base unlike during WWII when it was home to Bristol Beaufighters. However there is a small museum dedictaed to RAAF activities, a memorial area and four aircraft on display at the entrance.

Australian War Memorial

Although called a memorial this is effectivley a museum to all aspects of war as have affected Australia. There are a great many interesting exhibits including several WWI and WWII aircraft, the highlight of which is the Avro Lancaster G-George which flew 90 missions during the war.

NELSAM

In full this is the North East Land Sea & Air Museum which is situated on the edge of the former Sunderland airport. There are a few airframes outside, notably the Avro Vulcan which was under repaint when we visited, and also a couple of hangars with further exhibits. The main hangar in particular is pretty full with little room between displays making photography challenging.

Morayvia

This is a small but interesting museum along the coast a little from Inverness. Certainly worth a look if you are in the area.

Dumfries and Galloways museum

This interesting Scottish museum is on the remains of the old airfield and uses the old control tower to good effect in displaying many artefacts. The highlight is probably the restored sptifire recovered from Loch Doon many years ago. A good way to start your birthday!
